The 10-room A&K Sanctuary property in the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest is located minutes from the Uganda Wildlife Authority Centre. Guests have access to gorilla trekking in a forest that's home to half of the mountain gorilla population.?
The lodge was designed with details created by Bwindi artisans. Roofs were finished with papyrus reed thatch and were installed in such a way as to make the lodge merge with the forest canopy. Banana fiber cladding was handwoven by artisans from the organization NGO Ride 4 a Woman.??
Some elements from the original camp were preserved, such as reception doors carved decades ago by Bwindi craftspeople.?
The lodge features an open layout with large windows and high ceilings that provide views of the forest. More than 120,000 recycled beads were strung by hand to craft custom light fixtures. Interior colors are earth-toned.?

"Designing in Bwindi meant working with, not against, the forest. We drew inspiration from its rhythms and textures to create spaces that dissolve the boundary between lodge and landscape, so every guest feels immersed in the spirit of Uganda," said Juan Cloete, Associate, Architecture & Visualization at Luxury Frontiers.
